Yoga: A natural remedy for lifestyle diseases

Abstract:The modern world is facing a pandemic of lifestyle disorders that require changes to be made consciously by individuals themselves, and as yoga is the best lifestyle ever designed, it has potential in the prevention, management, and rehabilitation of prevalent lifestyle disorders. Lifestyle diseases are caused by poor eating habits (high-fat and sugary foods), irregular eating schedules, stress and anxiety, inactivity, bad habits like drinking and smoking, uncontrollable cravings, and erratic sleeping patterns. India has experienced a transition from an era characterized by infectious diseases, childhood and maternal fatalities to a period dominated by lifestyle diseases over the 20th and 21st centuries. Due to its many health advantages, yoga, an ancient Indian mind-body practice, is growing in popularity worldwide. Yoga is a comprehensive system of self culture that encompasses all facets of human existence and strives for the harmonious development of the body and mind. It leads to physical well-being and mental harmony, which in turn leads to peaceful, happy, and optimistic thinking. Yoga is a holistic lifestyle that enhances physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being rather than just a set of poses, or asanas.
