Abstract:
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a set of 17 global goals adopted by the United Nations in 2015 with the aim of ending poverty, protecting the planet and ensuring that all people enjoy peace and prosperity by 2030. Yoga, an ancient philosophy from India, is an integral part of Ayurveda. It is gaining recognition worldwide for its potential benefits to health. The holistic nature of Yoga, addressing physical, mental, social and spiritual well-being, has the potential to contribute in several SDGs. However, the relationship between Yoga and sustainable development, specifically the United Nations' SDGs, has received relatively little attention in the research literature. This study aims to investigate the relationship between Yoga and the SDGs by conducting the review of concerned literature. The review will focus on the ways in which Yoga can contribute to the achievement of the SDGs, including good health and well-being, quality education, gender equality, sanitation and sustainable communities etc. The findings of this study will provide important insights into the potential role of Yoga in achieving global sustainable development.
