The purpose of the present study was to examine the effect of Body Mass Index (BMI) on the performance of state-level Kabaddi players in Maharashtra. Kabaddi is a high-intensity contact sport that requires strength, agility, speed, and endurance, all of which may be influenced by an athlete’s body composition. A total of state-level Kabaddi players representing Maharashtra were selected as subjects for the study. Body Mass Index was calculated using standard anthropometric measurements of height and weight. Performance was assessed through selected Kabaddi-specific physical and skill-based performance tests. Statistical analysis was carried out to determine the relationship between BMI and performance variables. The findings of the study revealed a significant relationship between BMI and certain performance parameters, indicating that players with an optimal BMI demonstrated better overall performance compared to those with higher or lower BMI values. The results suggest that maintaining an appropriate BMI is an important factor for enhancing performance in Kabaddi. This study may be useful for coaches, trainers, and players in planning training and fitness programs aimed at improving competitive performance.
