Abstract: Many college students spend several hours sitting in classrooms, and seats without proper back support may cause strain on the lower back. This study aimed to examine how long periods of sitting on non-ergonomic seats affect students’ lower back health. A total of 125 students participated in a survey using a structured Google Form, which collected information on daily sitting hours, type of seating, and any discomfort experienced. Pain was measured using the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). Most students reported sitting more than six hours per day on poorly supported seats and experienced mild to moderate lower back pain, often described as a dull ache. The results highlight that extended sitting on seats without proper backrests can increase the risk of lower back discomfort. Introducing ergonomically designed seating and promoting healthy posture habits may help reduce these problems and improve student well-being.
