Abstract:Background: In high-stakes moments of a basketball game, free throw performance can significantly impact the outcome. Psychological pressure often impairs motor performance, especially under competitive conditions. PETTLEP-based imagery a mental training technique incorporating Physical, Environment, Task, Timing, Learning, Emotion, and Perspective elements offers a structured approach to enhance performance under pressure. This study investigates the effect of PETTLEP imagery on free throw accuracy and anxiety levels in competitive basketball settings. Objectives: The primary aim is to assess whether PETTLEP-based imagery improves free throw shooting accuracy under pressure compared to traditional imagery and a control condition. A secondary objective is to evaluate the effect of PETTLEP imagery on competitive anxiety. Methods: A total of 45 basketball players (aged 16-22) were randomly assigned to three groups: PETTLEP imagery, traditional imagery, and control. Participants underwent a 4-week intervention involving 10-minute daily sessions. Pre-test and post-test measures included free throw accuracy, a simulated pressure test (crowd noise and countdown timer), and the Competitive State Anxiety Inventory-2 (CSAI-2). Data were analyzed using repeated measures ANOVA and Cohen’s d to determine effect size. Results: Preliminary results indicate that the PETTLEP group showed a statistically significant improvement in free throw accuracy under pressure conditions (p
