Background: Low Back Pain (LBP) is a major musculoskeletal disorder affecting athletes, especially cricketers, due to repetitive spinal loading and poor biomechanics.
Objective: To evaluate the prevalence and functional disability caused by LBP among young cricketers.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 61 male cricketers aged 18-25 years in Mandi Gobindgarh. Data were collected using a self-designed demographic questionnaire and the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI).
Results: Out of 61 participants, 90.2% showed minimal disability, 9.8% had moderate disability, and none showed severe or crippling disability. These findings indicate a relatively low level of functional impairment due to LBP in this cohort.
Conclusion: Young cricketers showed low prevalence of functional disability related to LBP. Early intervention, biomechanical training, and proper load management may contribute to better outcomes. However, preventive strategies should continue to be emphasized.
