Author(s): Awashes Subba and Soumi Sarkar
Abstract:The study seeks to explore and determine whether dissatisfaction with body parts among female university students exists. A cross-sectional study, using a purposive sampling method, was conducted with 96 female students studying at the university. Body parts dissatisfaction was measured through Body Parts Dissatisfaction Scale.
The findings revealed that the female students have mixed feelings about their body parts, as they wish to have some parts smaller, some bigger, and some as they are. This suggests that body parts dissatisfaction is prevalent among female university students.
Based on the findings, it may be concluded that the female students at the university feel dissatisfied with their body segments. This reflects that body image dissatisfaction exists even with just a body segment or part not being in the desired form. This finding further extends the body of knowledge about body image-related dissatisfaction, which previously centered and limited on/to the binary categorisation of the thin-ideal body and the fat body image.
