This study compared Game-Specific Training (GST) and Plyometric Training (PT) on football players' speed, explosive power (EP), and perceptual accuracy (PA). Thirty 16-20-year-old male football players were randomly assigned to GST/PT groups of 15 each. Three times a week for eight weeks, both groups followed prescribed training routines.
The 30-Meter Sprint Test (ST), Standing Broad Jump (SBJ), and Football-Specific Perceptual Accuracy Test (PAT) were used pre- and post-intervention to assess performance. Results indicate significant improvements in all indicators for both groups (p<0.05). PT improved explosive power and sprint performance more than GST, although GST improved PA more.
PT improves EP and speed, but GST improves sport-relevant perceptual and cognitive skills. Based on players' performance needs, coaches may combine both strategies.
