Author(s): Himanshi Verma and Bharat Verma
Abstract:The current study investigates the impact of motor activity on orphans’ social competence. Orphans often encounter emotional, psychological and developmental problems because of lack of steady parental care. They can face difficulties in making friends, talking to others and fitting in. PA and especially structured group PA, is an important medium that can be utilized to improve socialization, self-esteem, feelings of empathy, cooperation, self-regulation and resilience. This paper reviews empirical research, theories, and studies conducted in the field to critically analyse the ways in which orphans‟ participation in sports and physical activities addresses social skills learning. This study examines empirical findings, theoretical frameworks, and field-based evidence to analyse how participation in sports and physical activity fosters the development of social skills among orphans. It also outlines strategies for implementing physical education programs in orphanages and community care settings. The research underscores the significance of physical activity as a tool for psychosocial development and advocates for its integration into the holistic care of orphaned children.
