Author(s): AL Denn John B Lozada and Norita E Manly
Abstract:This study examines the integration of digital tools in the Physical Education (PE) and Physical Activities Towards Health and Fitness (PATH Fit) curricula through teachers’ experiences and perspectives in private higher education institutions in the National Capital Region. Using a qualitative phenomenological approach, open-ended questions validated by experts were employed to collect insights from 18 purposively selected participants.
rnThe findings of the research identified key opportunities: promoting inclusion and equal participation, embracing change, professional growth, alternative learning environments and gaming technology. In contrast, internet connectivity issues, tech hurdles, faculty adaptability, and student compliance issues were among the challenges. Contingency planning for online learning and preparing the necessary materials to be uploaded to Learning Management Systems were mentioned as best practices in overcoming the challenges.
This research concludes that PATH Fit teachers exhibit proficiency and resourcefulness in using digital tools as they were able to make PE inclusive, recognize the opportunity to learn the new modalities, and find solutions to drawbacks like internet connectivity issues and technological hurdles.
