Impact of teacher behaviours and classroom characteristics on academic learning time in physical education in the new juaben North Municipality, Ghana

Abstract:
The purpose of the study was to utilize the AcademicrnLearning Time-Physical Education observational instrument to describe thernAcademic Learning Time patterns of students in Physical Education classes inrnSenior High Schools in New Juaben North Municipality. The Academic LearningrnTime-Physical Education Version II was used for data collection. In all, 24rnlessons were observed using 24 target students (13 boys and 11 girls). Datarncollected were analyzed using percentages, mean scores and ‘Mann-Whitney U’rnstatistics generated by the SPSS statistical software. The results of thisrnstudy indicate that the overall ALT PE accrued by the students was 19.77% andrnin majority of the categories for both Context Level and Learner InvolvementrnLevels, there were no significant differences in ALT-PE patterns for both malernand female teachers and students at a significant level of p<0.05.
