This study aimed to investigate gender differencesrnin competitive anxiety among netball players from Kerala. A total of 330rnparticipants (165 males and 165 females), aged between 18 and 28 years, whorncompeted in the Kerala State Senior Netball Championship in 2024 were selected forrnthe study. The Sport Competition Anxiety Test (SCAT) developed by Martens etrnal. (1990) was used to measure the level of competitive anxiety.rnThe findings revealed that female netball players exhibited significantlyrnhigher levels of competitive anxiety (Mean = 22.59) compared to male playersrn(Mean = 20.79). Furthermore, female players showed greater variability in theirrnanxiety scores, indicating diverse individual responses to competition stress.rnThese results support previous research suggesting that biological,rnpsychological, and sociocultural factors contribute to gender differences inrncompetitive anxiety. The study emphasizes the need for coaches, trainers, andrnsports psychologists to consider these differences when designing anxietyrnmanagement and performance enhancement programs. Tailored interventions thatrnaddress the specific needs of female athletes could help reduce anxiety levelsrnand improve overall performance. The findings also highlight the importance ofrnfurther research to explore coping strategies and mental health support systemsrnfor athletes, fostering a healthier competitive environment for both male andrnfemale netball players.
