Abstract:To live a long healthy life everyone generally perform regular exercises according to their level. The objective of the study was to compare the physical fitness of geriatric population engaged in different physical activities. Thirty geriatric populations were selected purposively from Santiniketan, Bolpur, Birbhum, West Bengal, India as the subjects for the study. The mean age of the subjects was 67.5 years. They were also purposively divided into three different physical activity groups- Yoga practitioner group (YPG) (n-10), General Exercise Group (GEG) (n-10) and Control Group (CG) (n-10). The minimum training age of the subject was 5 years. Physical fitness variables in terms of upper body strength, upper body flexibility, lower body strength, lower body flexibility, speed and agility and aerobic capacity were selected and to measure all these variables Rikli and Jones Test were used. Descriptive statistics, One-way ANOVA and LSD post-hoc-test were used. The result revealed that regular training has positive impact on fitness of geriatric population. The yoga Practitioner group was better in flexibility whereas for speed agility and aerobic capacity the general exercise group were better among the selected groups.
