The impact of coach-athlete relationship on sports performance
Author(s): Manvi
Abstract:This study explores the association between coaching behaviors and athlete subjective performance among competitive boxing athletes. Using data collected from 101 boxers across various age groups, the research employed the Coaching Behavior Scale for Sport (CBS-S) and the Athlete Subjective Performance Scale (ASPS) to examine how different coaching dimensions—such as instructional behavior, mental preparation, and personal rapport—relate to athletes' self-perceived performance. Findings revealed a significant positive correlation between instructional coaching behaviors and athlete performance, whereas mental preparation and personal rapport exhibited weaker or non-significant associations. The results highlight the essential role of effective instructional strategies in fostering athletic development and performance, offering insight into how specific coaching behaviors can influence outcomes in high-pressure competitive environments.
