Impact of yogic intervention on athletic performance and physical fitness of college female middle-distance runners
Author(s): Sreejith PA
Abstract:This study investigates the impact of a 12-week yogic training program as a complementary intervention on the athletic performance and physical fitness of college-aged female middle-distance runners. The participants were divided into two groups: an experimental group that undertook yoga sessions along with their regular athletic training, and a control group that continued with standard athletic training alone. Assessments were conducted for 800 m sprint time, 1500 m run time, flexibility, core strength, and perceived stress scale (PSS) both before and after the intervention. The results showed significant improvements in the experimental group across all measured variables, particularly in flexibility, core strength, and psychological stress reduction. These findings suggest that incorporating yogic practices into athletic training regimens may provide substantial benefits to performance, overall fitness and well-being.
