Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to explore the effect of game specific training on selected physical fitness and skill performance variables among handball players. A total of thirty (N=30) men college level handball players, aged between 18 to 23 years, were randomly selected from Thiruvallur District, Tamil Nadu. The participants were divided into two equal groups of 15 each. The first experimental group engaged in game specific training, the second group underwent control group and the over a period of six weeks, with each session lasting 45 minutes. The selected physical fitness variables namely Explosive Power, and Strength Endurance were measured using the Explosive Power for standing Vertical jump test, and Strength Endurance for 30 seconds endurance jump test. and skill performance variables namely playing ability were measured using the subjective rating test. Assessments were conducted before and after the training period. The collected data were analyzed statistically using dependent ‘t’ test. The results indicated that the experimental group one game specific training led to significantly better improvements in the measured selected physical fitness and skill performance variables compared to the control groups.
