Abstract:This study examines the emotional intelligence (EI) levels of postgraduate students from various departments at Kashmir University. Emotional intelligence, which encompasses self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy, and social skills, plays a crucial role in academic success, interpersonal relationships, and leadership abilities. A total of 52 students participated in this study, completing self-reported questionnaires to assess their EI levels. The results indicate that while students exhibit strong self-awareness, there are varying levels of self-regulation and motivation, with females generally scoring higher in empathy and motivation, and males excelling in self-regulation. The study highlights the importance of emotional intelligence in academic performance, mental well-being, and social interactions. The findings suggest that universities should implement programs to foster emotional intelligence among students, as it can significantly enhance both academic and personal outcomes. Limitations include the small sample size and reliance on self-reported data, suggesting the need for further research with larger, more diverse populations and objective EI assessments.
