Abstract:This study aimed to evaluate the effects of a two-month intensive physical training program on the physiological and physical profiles of elite Cameroonian cyclists. A total of 10 cyclists were assessed on a range of parameters before and after the training program, including anthropometric, body composition, hemodynamic, and physical performance measures. Anthropometric parameters (height, body weight, body mass index, and metabolic age) showed no significant changes (
p>0.05). In contrast, body composition analysis revealed a significant reduction in body fat percentage (22.27%) and an increase in muscle mass (4.70%,
p<0.05), with no significant changes in body water percentage (
p>0.05). Hemodynamic assessments demonstrated a significant decrease in systolic blood pressure (6.41%) (
p<0.05), while resting heart rate and diastolic blood pressure remained unchanged (
p>0.05). In terms of physical performance, vertical jump height, leg strength, and arm strength showed significant improvements, with increases of 7.70%, 17.95%, and 16.01%, respectively (
p<0.05 to
p<0.001). Sprint performance improved by 3.10%, but no significant changes were found in grip strength and VO₂ max (
p>0.05). These findings suggest that short-term intensive training programs can significantly improve certain aspects of body composition and physical performance, while having minimal impact on anthropometric and cardiovascular parameters in elite cyclists.
