Abstract:The purpose of the present investigation was to study the Motor Fitness variables as predictors of Skill Performance of university Basketball players. To achieve the purpose of the study Ninety Six (96) men Basketball players from various South Indian Universities teams which enter quarter final in South Zone Inter-University Basketball Tournament for men were selected as subjects. Their age ranged between 18 to 25 years. The study was restricted to seven motor fitness variables viz., Speed, Agility, Eye-Hand Coordination, Leg Explosive Power, Arm Explosive Power, Muscular Endurance and Dynamic Balance. To assess skill performance AAPHER Basketball skill test was used, which measures Dribbling, Defensive Movement, Passing and Shooting skills of the subjects. Correlation and Stepwise multiple regression analysis was employed to find out the major predictors of skill performance by selected 7 motor fitness variables. The results revealed that out of the 7 variables of motor fitness measures entered into the equation; only 3 variables majorly predicted the skill performance of male basketball players. They were Eye-Hand Coordination Speed, Dynamic Balance and Speed.
