Abstract:Hypertension, or high blood pressure, is a major public health concern affecting nearly one billion people worldwide. Prehypertension, a condition where blood pressure is elevated but not yet classified as hypertension, acts as a warning sign, putting individuals at an increased risk of developing full-blown hypertension in the future. Diaphragm release, an intriguing physiological phenomenon centered around the passive relaxation of the diaphragm muscle at the culmination of exhalation, unfolds a cascade of effects on heart rate and the parasympathetic nervous system, unveiling a realm of potential applications for overall well-being. But its effectiveness has not been adequately researched on blood pressure.
Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect immediately after diaphragm release, on blood pressure in prehypertensive and hypertensive young adults.
Methodology: 60 subjects were selected according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. Blood pressure was evaluated of subjects by a mercury sphygmomanometer, prior to and immediately following, the intervention.
Result: The data analysis was done using Microsoft Excel version (2022). The analysis showed significant change in blood pressure from the baseline, systolic pressure in group A was p=0.038×10-5and of diastolic blood pressure was p=0.00018 while in group B systolic pressure was p=0.013×10-8 and diastolic pressure p=0.00039 which are considered significant.
Conclusion: The study concluded that single intervention of diaphragm release technique is effective in reducing blood pressure immediately. However more significant improvements are seen in systolic pressure compared diastolic pressure.
