Decreasing the dropout rate of Indian young female athletes in educational institutions through sound menstrual health practices: A new approach to gender equity in sports

Abstract:Barriers to increase women access to sports is prime importance for attaining inclusiveness in sports. There exists various studies conducted by governmental agencies and voluntary organizations to understand the dynamics of female drop outs from education and work. But there is no explicit study focusing on the dropout rate of women in sports. In this research article, an investigation propounds to understand the primacy of decreasing the dropout rate of young female athletes in educational institutes through sound menstrual health practices. This article understands the existence of various factors leading to drop-out rate of female athletes. Thus this research asserts the neglect of sound menstrual management in the conduct of sports policy in India. With the aim to evaluate the inclusivity and effectiveness of policies addressing menstrual health management, this study asserts that the access to menstrual hygiene products, provision of facilities, and support systems would lead effectively promote gender equity in India. this study would proceed in the following section, where: the first section would provide on the State of Gender Equity in Sports focusing only on India where this section would trace the progress of women in sports, factors leading to gender disparities, and impact on gender disparities on sports, the second section would account the by logically placing the arguments in favour of the menstrual cycle and its effects on athletic performance, menstrual health, and sports performance where the common menstrual health challenges faced by the young women athletes would be elaborated, the third sections would trace improving the menstrual health of young female athlete at the educational institutions; and the last section would be the concluding observation which would provide a call to action for promoting gender equity and menstrual health in sports and education.
