An assessment of general motor ability among handball and korfball players

Abstract: The aim of this study was to assess and compare general motor ability between handball and korfball players. For this study, the researcher selected the players of inter-university level handball and korfball game of Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University as the subjects. The subjects taken in this study had played inter-university competition during the year 2022-23. The selected subjects were between 22 to 25 years of age. A total of 30 subjects were selected in this study, out of which 15 were handball players and 15 were korfball players. To test the general motor ability of the players, the researcher used the physical fitness test developed by B.E. Phillips. Descriptive analysis and t-test were used to assess and compare the general motor abilities of handball and korfball players. Significance level was set at 0.05. This study concluded that there is a significant difference in the general motor ability components of lower body explosive power, upper body strength and agility, speed and change of direction between handball and korfball players. There is a significant difference in the general motor ability components of handball and korfball players. The general motor ability components of lower body explosive power and upper body strength are higher in handball players than korfball players but agility, speed and change of direction are higher in korfball players. Comparison of total general motor ability revealed that handball players have higher general motor ability than korfball players.
