Abstract:Mental health poses significant problems for many college students worldwide. Depression is one of the most common psychological conditions experienced by college students. Purpose: To determine the influence of breath training on symptoms associated with depression in college students. Methods: Fifteen college students participated in five consecutive sessions of breath training focused on diaphragmatic breathing. Participants were asked to complete a brief questionnaire prior to each training session, engaged in a guided breath training session and completed a brief questionnaire after the training session. The questionnaire recorded anthropomorphic information and symptoms of depression. Results: Initial statistical analysis identified relationships that warranted further investigation. Paired sample t-tests identified statistically significant relationships between pre- and post-intervention questionnaire responses. Conclusion: Breath training appears to have significant influence on symptoms associated with depression in college students.
