Author(s): Aslam N Khan
Abstract:The purpose of the study was to find out the effect of meditation on self-control of science students of Rajarshee Shahu Science College, Chandur Railway, Amravati. For this purpose researcher has selected forty (40) science students from Rajarshee Shahu Science College, Chandur Railway, Amravati. The age of the science students were ranged between 20 to 22 years. Students were divided into two groups i.e. Control Group (20 students) & Experimental Group (20 students). Experimental Group were gone through Meditation practices for three months three days per week at Rajarshee Shahu Science College, Chandur Railway, Amravati. Experimental group were given regularly meditation practices in early morning with sequence i.e. The students were instructed to perform these exercises slowly, breathing in while initiating a posture, breathing out while bending, and then doing normal breathing for 10 seconds while maintaining the posture. Prathana, Breathing practices, Meditation (performing deep inhalation and exhalation), Trataka (gazing at a burning candle kept on an elevated base) & Relaxation. Self-Control was measured before Meditation practices as pre-test and after Meditation practices as post-test with the help of Multi Assessment Personality Series (MAPS) constructed by Sanjay Vohra. Statistical analysis was done on the basis of ‘t’ test and the level of significant was kept at 0.05. Pre and post treatments of science students on self-control were compared. Result of the study shows that there was difference between the mean score of self-control of control and experimental group pre-test and post-test. To see these differences were significant or not researcher applied ‘t’ test. The calculated ‘t’ value of pre & posttest of experimental group was 4.987 which was greater than the tabulated ‘t’ value 2.093, which shows that the difference was found to be significant. Whereas, the calculated ‘t’ value of pre & post-test of control group was 1.276 which was lesser than the tabulated ‘t’ value 2.093, which shows that the difference was found to be insignificant. Concluding the study it revealed that post treatment group of science students shows significantly high self-control than the pre-treatment group of science students, it may be attributed that meditation is an ancient practice that is an integral part of Yoga. Meditation helps an individual to first become aware of what’s going on in his mind and then to tame his mind and bring it under the control of his intention. Instead of the mind controlling a person, person tries to control his mind. This gives the ability to stay centered and focused regardless of the circumstances.
